Carer’s Week 2021: Make Carers Visible & Valued

What Is Carers Week?

Carers week, as the name suggests, is a week-long campaign that runs every year to raise awareness for all those caring for families and communities throughout the UK. It gives recognition to the challenges voluntary carers face and helps those that actively carry out caring responsibilities without necessarily knowing it, to identify as being carers and access much needed support.

When is National Carers Week 2021?

This year Carers Week will be taking place from 7th to 13th June with lots of events taking place both online and face to face nationwide.

Why Is National Carers Week 2021 Important?

In the UK there are approximately 6.5 million carers. All taking care of a friend or family member with a disability, physical or mental illness or requiring support as they get older. This can significantly affect the lives of carers, from their relationships and health, to work commitments and finances.

Caring for someone without any support or the right information is difficult to say the least, which is why Carers Week UK aims to shed light on the selfless contribution carers make to their families, community and society, all while ensuring that they have all the support they need.

With the impact of Coronavirus, this has been made even more challenging which is why National Carers Week 2021 is so important. This year the theme is “make carers visible and valued” and we should all take the opportunity to show appreciation for our carers that have taken on an extra responsibility throughout the pandemic and beyond.
